WARWICK FARM RACE 8 PREVIEW

By Phil Purser

James Winks (pictured) rides website each way tip Jayconi tomorrow at Warwick Farm.
Warwick Farm hosts an eight race card tomorrow with the first at 12.40pm and the last at 4.55pm local time.

As alluded to in the Justracing article tonight the field sizes are pathetic.

Group racing returns to Sydney with the running of the Group 3 Missile Stakes which has attracted a shocking field of non-WFA performers.

The meeting is so pathetic that one is flat out finding a race to preview from the joint, as short priced favourites adorn the Form Guide in field sizes as small as just five horses.

The only race without a short priced favourite - and with a decent number of starters - is Race 8, so I’ve no option but to preview that race.

HORSE
COMMENT
AGISTER
Allan Denham retired – some months ago obviously for about five minutes - and he’s back, which is good, as he’s one of the few that can train a racehorse, but I can’t be in his corner with this horse, first up, off a wide alley, with a 3-kilo kid on.
GIRLS GO RACING
Should have won easily last Saturday, but the 3-kilo kid couldn’t get a run on her. That’s why kids get a 3-kilo claim because they are still learning.
MY VEGAS
A consistent horse that is always a place chance in any race he contests.
HARDBREAK HOTEL
Drawn 15 of 15, but if the kid can get some cover in the run he could charge home off a hot pace.
EARNEST ERNEST
Looked like Bernborough flying home last start. In career best form so has a chance again.
MAC CHOIS
Has obviously had injury woes - so prefer to watch.
TYPEFACE
Goes quick and stops quick, so the last 100-150 is a worry.
RAMPART
Synthetic hoof filler comes off, so his hoofs have mended a bit, but he needs a heart transplant too.
RUMOUR AND SCANDAL
Fair run when resuming last start, but this is no easier.
JAYCONI
Melbourne visitor that can box-seat here and be hard to beat if he handles the track. Also in at Flemington. Winks knows him and is coming to Sydney to ride the stable runners.
LAUTREC
Just the one win in the last 18 months was at Hawkesbury in a Class 2, so if he can win this race they ought to close Sydney racing down.
MASTER GAZE
Scratched. (Praise the Lord).
BUTT I’M READY
Going for three in a row, but detests Warwick Farm (has never run a place in two goes here) and detests good tracks (no wins in five starts on good) so no.
LIECHTENSTEIN
Well drawn but can be weak to the line if they ride him too closely. First run here, but has each way claims if they’ll let him settle.
SPINHRO
Mixes form too much for my liking.

CONCLUSION: Five apprentices have rides in the race, so that’s a worry, as Step One in their life is generally to “panic”. There should be a stack of speed on with Typeface and Agister going quickly, so I’d back Jayconi each way, as he should box-seat off the good tempo and he’ll have horses to his outside in the run, which will help him handle the clockwise way of going.
